Philosophy By Nancy Rodriguez
The obstacles we face while achieving social justice is not acting upon an injustice act. There are some injustices that we just cannot face alone but the ones that we can make a difference about we end up staying quiet like if nothing had happened. By not speaking up we are just as bad as the injustice being done because we are allowing it to happen. Being afraid hinders us from making a difference. When we are scared it blinds us from being able to make a difference in the world of ourselves and our community.
Something that can help us achieve social justice is to know how to fight our battles. We cannot build our shield and sword in the middle of the battle field. Just like we have been taught that we cannot come to school unprepared we cannot just act upon what we think is unjust. We need to have a strategy for how we are going to attack something beyond us. There needs to be evidence unity and structure to achieve justice. Most importantly there needs to be struggle because without struggle we cannot achieve anything.
My role in the struggle is to give back to my community through education. I plan to give back by getting the knowledge habits and skills I need to make a better life for the people I love. I plan on going to a four year university to major in English and hopefully teach at Social Justice high school. My career will reflect the struggle that the hunger strikers believed we could achieve through education.
